WorldCover Private Policy

PRIVACY POLICY

WorldCover
Effective date: 19 August 2026

This policy explains what WorldCover stores on your device and in Apple iCloud/CloudKit, what can appear publicly when you use social features, and the choices you have.

  1. CONTROLLER

macka Development (Maths Karlsson and Martin Kaiser) provides WorldCover and is responsible for personal data processed in connection with the App, except where Apple processes data as an independent controller (for example Sign in with Apple and iCloud infrastructure).

  1. DATA WE PROCESS

Depending on how you use WorldCover, we may process:

• Apple Sign in identifiers and any name/email Apple shares with the App (email may be a private relay)
• Profile data you enter: nickname, avatar (including a photo you choose), hometown, home country, friend code
• Travel progress: visited / wishlist / favourite countries and U.S. states, ratings, visit notes, XP, achievements, quiz and Discover the World progress
• Travel stories: titles, dates, itinerary items, checklists, places, photos you add, and GPS track points if you enable route tracking
• Device preferences: theme, temperature unit, legal acceptance version
• Approximate weather requests using coordinates for a place (no account id is sent to the weather provider)

We do not sell your personal data and we do not use third-party advertising trackers in the current App.

  1. WHERE DATA IS STORED

• On device: progress and settings in local app storage; photos and avatar files in the app sandbox
• Apple CloudKit (your iCloud account), when available: private database for progress sync and travel stories/photos/tracks; public database for explorer profile fields used for friends and leaderboards
• Open-Meteo: short-lived weather API requests with latitude/longitude only

CloudKit data resides in Apple’s infrastructure under Apple’s terms and your iCloud settings.

  1. PUBLIC PROFILE (OPTIONAL SOCIAL LAYER)

When your explorer profile is complete and sync is available, WorldCover may publish: public user id, nickname, avatar, XP, visited country list, and friend code. Your Apple email is not published. Other users may find you by friend code or nickname search and see leaderboard rankings. You can stop by deleting your account data or discontinuing use; we attempt to remove the public record when deletion succeeds.

  1. PERMISSIONS

iOS will ask before WorldCover accesses:

• Camera / photo library — profile or trip photos
• Location while in use — trip routes and arrival suggestions
• Motion — improve route accuracy while tracking
• Notifications — optional arrival suggestions

You can refuse or later change these in iOS Settings. Denying a permission limits related features only.

  1. PURPOSES AND LEGAL BASES

We process data to provide the App you request (contract/performance of the service), to sync across your devices via iCloud, to enable optional social features you use, to keep the App secure and reliable, and to comply with law. Where consent is required (for example certain device permissions or accepting this policy), we rely on your consent, which you can withdraw by changing permissions or deleting account data / stopping use.

  1. SHARING

We share data with:

• Apple — Sign in with Apple, CloudKit/iCloud, push/local notification infrastructure as applicable
• Other WorldCover explorers — only the public profile fields described above, if you use social features
• People you invite to a shared trip — via Apple CKShare for that private share
• Open-Meteo — coordinates for weather

We do not sell personal data.

  1. RETENTION

Local data remains until you reset progress, delete account data, or remove the App. CloudKit private and public records remain while your account/sync is active and are deleted or overwritten when you use in-app deletion (best effort when iCloud is available). Apple may retain backups according to your iCloud settings.

  1. YOUR RIGHTS

Depending on your region (including GDPR if you are in the EEA/UK), you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port data, and to object or withdraw consent. In-app controls include editing your profile, resetting progress, signing out, and Delete account in Settings → Danger zone. You may also contact us as described below, and you may lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.

  1. CHILDREN

WorldCover is not directed at children who cannot consent to online services under local law. Do not use the App if you cannot lawfully agree to this policy.

  1. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS

Apple may process CloudKit/iCloud data in regions where Apple operates. Open-Meteo requests go to their API endpoints. By using sync and weather features you acknowledge these transfers as needed to provide the service.

  1. SECURITY

We rely on Apple platform security (device sandbox, Sign in with Apple, CloudKit). No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure; protect your device and Apple ID.

  1. CHANGES

We may update this Privacy Policy. Material updates change the in-app legal version and require acceptance before continued use.

  1. CONTACT

Support requests can be sent through the App Store listing for WorldCover or the contact channel published by macka Development.
